A joint presentation exploring research and resources regarding people with disabilities in film and media coordinated by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the Library of Congress Motion Picture, Broadcast and Recorded Sound Division (LC/MBRS).

People with disabilities have been invisible, understated or inflated in the public eye due to images which appear in film and television. The depictions of people with disabilities in the reel of film and in images of the media range from realistic portrayals to exaggerated betrayals of an individual’s life. The goal of this panel is to create a forum to exchange ideas about researching these representations. Researchers will discuss images and themes found in film, news and television. Librarians will discuss finding materials and accessing film collections onsite and online at the Library of Congress.
